One of the main reasons for updating this site, was that I had many visitors, especially from the People’s Republic of China. It was nice that the Chinese people found their way here, and most of them were downloading the code to the Multiple Precision Toolbox for MATLAB under Microsoft Windows. When I had set up the new site in January, I followed how the traffic developed on the statistics of my web hotel, and it seemed that I had zero visitors from China. I thought it was strange and tried to find out why.
Finally, today, I found that I did have visitors from China. The problem was that I had switched to using Google Analytics instead instead of checking the statistics at my web hotel! When checking the web hotel I found out that the visitors from China had come back in February. I then found out that Google Analytics does not work well with traffic in China.
So the traffic to the People’s Republic of China just disappeared for a couple of weeks, just after I had updated the site. Soon, the traffic from China had come back again, but then I was unlucky having switched to Google Analytics. This took me some time to find out. Now I know that I have the Chinese people back here again, and I am happy about that. But I still wonder why Google Analytics, a very nice tool for site optimization, does not work for traffic the People’s Republic of China?!?!
